Beloved Architect of Identity,
Some seasons don’t ask for more effort. They ask for a different pace.
Lately, life has felt heavier than “busy.”
In about five weeks, I’m moving cross-country from California to Pennsylvania.
What once felt far away is suddenly close.
That means cleaning, organizing, paperwork, mortgage documents, quotes from moving companies, address changes, planning the drive, deciding where we’ll stay, saying goodbye to friends, wrapping up loose ends.
And somehow, I still caught myself expecting to show up in business exactly the same way.
Same pace. Same output. Same standards.
Crazy, right?
Because deep down, I knew it wasn’t realistic. But many of us do this.
Life changes dramatically… and we keep judging ourselves by standards built for a different season.
We call ourselves inconsistent. Lazy. Behind. When really, the terrain changed.
The other day I thought about hiking.
On a flat path, you move one way. On steep hills, rocky ground, mud, streams, loose gravel, you move another way.
You slow down. You pay attention. You adjust your steps.
That doesn’t mean you’re weak. On the contrary, you have learned from past experiences. You have become wise.
Changing pace doesn’t cancel the journey. It respects the terrain.
That thought gave me relief.
Maybe this season is not asking you to do more. Maybe it’s asking you to do what’s viable.
Maybe the win right now is not maximum output. Maybe it’s protecting your energy, honoring reality, and staying in motion.
Even slower motion counts. Even reduced capacity counts. Even a smaller routine counts.
Slowing down does not erase the ground you’ve already covered.
So if life feels unusually heavy right now, don’t measure yourself by a version of you who had different bandwidth.
Build the schedule this season can hold. Choose the priorities this season can support. Keep moving in the shape reality allows.
That still counts.
